Last time I was there, several years ago, I was wishing I had a shovel along. The ties on the approach to the bridge were hanging almost entirely in the air from the dirt washing out from under them and those further east were buried nearly up to the rails. If I'd had a shovel and
tried to balance it out, I suppose I'd have gotten into a lot of trouble.
Every now and then something I see takes me like that. On old US 6/50 at the Colorado-Utah border there's a (1920's era?) monument spire to mark the border by the road. It has been used for target practice by generations of idiots. Every time I'm in the area (the original D&RGW ry grade is just up the hill) I think about coming for a week with some kind of patching compound and some paint... Wonder who'd show up to arrest me for that!
