More 1968 stuff

In an earlier thread with a similar name John West posted this regarding lumber shipments and freight car counts.

"Also per Joe and Ernie's book, seven flatcar loads from the Skyline Lumber Company were among the 30 cars moved from Chama to Alamosa on July 18, 1968.   Per several sources, this was the only eastbound train in July, 1968, and the next-to-last eastbound freight operated over Cumbres Pass by the Rio Grande, so IMHO it is safe to assume that this was the Skyline Lumber Company's last shipment by rail."

I wrote Ernie asking him about this because in the film footage he sent me the train looks far shorter than 30 cars. It appears that the train he shot going up Cumbres is the same one he shot on the east side of Cumbres, and to me it looks the same(less than 30 cars). There were several flatcars of lumber from Durango on the train brought over from 498. Am trying to clear this up a bit.

Also John Mention in a similar post he had shots of the last steam train from Durango....Have we ever seen these John?

"Per Joe Hereford and Ernie Robart's book, the last revenue cars over Cumbres, eastbound on 08/29/68, were 14 boxcar loads of lumber - but the captions don't say whether these were from Durango or Chama.  My own photo of the last eastbound freight from Durango to Chama the day before shows 14 boxcars in the consist, so it's likely these were the 14 loads of lumber and were from Durango - which would agree with Bill M.'s remembrance"

Also if you chased the last eastbound on 8/28/68 why did you not shoot the next day from Chama?

I started scripting yesterday....the most dreaded part of the entire process for me!!!
Cheers,
Greg
