Thought I would start a new thread rather that add to the old one...
Some may recall the locomotive lead truck thread from a while back, had some time in Como today and looked over every thing trying to find a locomotive number. No dice there but did find something interesting on the axle...
it says 1026E 315. That being a Baldwin class number
What locomotive then is 1026E 315? Turns out it is Silverton Northern 3.
The wheel set in question. Everything says this is a locomotive lead truck wheel set and the axle is from Silverton Northern 3.
Best theory I can come up with is that SN3, and D&RGW 375 shared the same style of lead truck. The D&RGW is known to have worked on the SN locomotives, during that SN3's lead truck axle ended up on 375. 375 was scrapped in Alamosa in 1949 and the wheelset stayed around the shop junk pile(could also explain the lack of locomotive numbers in the truck frame parts, not hard to figure out what locomotive from a class of 1 that the parts belong to)
Certainly open to other suggestions.....
