One meter = 39.37 inches. That is a difference in gauge of 3.37 inches when compared to a narrow gauge of 3 feet.
The Russian rails system was built to a gauge of 5 ft. The so-called Russian decapods were converted by using tires that were wider and narrowed the gauge by the necessary 3.5 inches (Or so the legend goes).
Would it be theoretically possible to regauge a meter gauge steam locomotive from one meter to three feet by using the same method without making any other additional major changes to the locomotive?
