Re: The Last American

Glad you enjoyed the article in the Sagebrush Headlight. I have written about 15 of them over the years about our adventures with Eureka. If you go through the NSRM archives for the Sagebrush Headlight all of them are online, except the latest. It will probably be up in a few weeks. Sometimes "The Last American" is the lead story, other times it is not, and you have to browse through the newsletter to find it.

I began the series with my father and mother meeting in 1946 at the Last Frontier Hotel here in Las Vegas. Outside where they met was some of the E&P equipment that is now in the possession of the NSRM in Boulder city, including the EN #12 and three E&P Coaches. So you might say the E&P has been in my life from the beginning and continues to this day some 64 years later.

This last installment is called "The Paradox". I tried to download it from my draft copy, but my computer skills being what they are, failed at doing so. In any event when I finish the series, it will be published in book form with additional history, photographs, artwork and anything else I can think of that might be of interest.

The Paradox chapter is indeed about the LONG trip on the C&TS with Eureka to Osier and return, with all the problems and adventures that came upon us. It was a wonderful but exhausting time where we had just about everything happen from running out of steam with the dreaded death wood, to pulling up sage for fuel, to stomping out flaming cow pies at midnight in the middle of nowhere.

Now, how many train trips can someone talk about where you get to stomp out glowing cow muffins at midnight?

The next issue will be out in a couple months, and it will be a continuation of our adventures on the C&TS.
