As many of you know, the late Ernie Robart was a man of many talents— here is another. This morning I visited Ernie’s widow, Lourdes to help her sort out various items left in Ernie’s estate, including three large boxes of various and rare airplane model kits.
But the real delight in my visit was to again see and photograph the Sn3 brass K-37 #497 that Ernie scratch-built from brass back around 1969-70. Quite remarkable when you consider the state of the narrow gauge modeling world and what was available in 1969. Just shows what a talented individual Ernie really was. Ernie was a big “fan” of the 497, having chased it many after it came out of the Alamosa shops in July 1967– as Olaf R. described in his recent posts.
Happily, Lourdes is keeping the 497, knowing how proud Ernie was of it. I agreed to make her a display case so that she could display it.
Now if anyone has any suggestions about what to do with these boxes of airplane models...!
