Hello, Theresa -
Our condolences on your loss, and our thanks to you for all you are doing to preserve your uncle's
priceless collection.
There is one item in the collection that could possibly settle a long-standing, usually good-natured
but sometimes bitter feud among fans of the D&RGW narrow gauge - the (in)famous 'Green Boiler
Jacket' controversy. There is an Otto Perry postcard in the collection - see [
ngdiscussion.net] -
which shows a brand-new narrow-gauge locomotive still on the flatcar used to ship it to Alamosa
from Burnham Shops in Denver.
The caption which accompanies this photo in the book 'Otto Perry's Railroad Pilgrimage' indicates that the engine was delivered with its jacket painted green, but there is still an argument about this that could be settled IF there is a caption on the back of the card, written by Otto Perry, that states the jacket WAS in fact green. If there is no caption, or if the caption does not mention the jacket color, then the controversy will rage on - probably for several more years
...
If in the process of sorting and cataloging your uncle's treasures you should come across this postcard, several of us would be very grateful for any information you could pass along to as to the caption - if any - on the reverse.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and assistance!
