Rich, I've seen several B&W photos of 268 freshly painted and with her main rods removed in a number of books. I think these were taken just prior to her going to Chicago for the RR Fair in 1949. That, or just prior to sending her to Durango for use in the movie "Denver and Rio Grande". I believe your photo dates from the late 40s or early 50s. I couldn't find the book(s) which have the other photos mentioned this morning. -- Ed

edit -- There's a B&W photo on p. 182 of John Norwood's "Rio Grande Narrow Gauge" taken from another angle which shows 268 with a fresh paint job and main rods removed. Norwood gives no photo credit and only states that 268 was sent to the Chicago Railroad Fair because of its light weight. So, that didn't give much info other than the assumption that this photo and the one you posted were taken around the same time. Sorry I couldn't come up with more. -- Ed
