I have a family member who is a member of Maine Narrow Gauge and he helped rebuild the burned portion of the engine house Saturday. He said that the damage was contained to a small area and that things could have been alot worse. One reason the building burned as it did is that it is a portable structure. The land where the engine house and museum sits is leased by Maine Narrow Gauge. The lease will be renewed next year but some changes may take place at that time. MNGRR may consider using a steel structure if a long term lease can be arranged. The volunteers at MNGRR are dedicated to preserving and protecting the two-foot gauge locomotives and rolling stock that are so important to the state's history. Donations are being accepted for the restoration of B&SR #7 who's tank was damaged in the fire.
