You might like the article which is available on the web in www.Coloradohistoricnewspapers.org and look for Oct. 6, 1922 issue of Weekly Ignacio Chieftain for the oil well wild cat that finally developed the field a few week prior. It was the first well which proved there was real profitable oil there, after two years of wildcatting. The article is near the 411/169 head end collision.
I believe the Farmington branch was changed to narrow gauge just because of the proposed oil shipments. There is a Farmington Branch story of the gauge conversion in the RGS Story.
