A pre-1906 Lima catalog gives the following information:
All Class "A": 50' radius
All Class "B": 75' to 100' radius, depending on subclass
All Class "C" 100' radius
Common sense and the catalog as these are
maximums; operating at maximums will increase the rate of wear and tear. I would recommend a 20% "fudge factor" for safety and cutting down on wear and tear.
Maybe if I knew which Shay you are talking about, I could be more specific. Identification of which CRRM you are affiliated with would be equally helpful. At the Colorado Railroad Museum, the Shays will easily handle any curve on the property.
