From the 1923 D&RGW Annual Report:
Equipment Purchased
"10 Freight Mikado Narrow Gauge, Nos. 470 to 479 $ 342,647.13"
Compare this to an entry in the 1925 Annual Report:
"Ten narrow gauge Mikado locomotives of 36,200 pounds tractive effort were purchased from the Baldwin Locomotive Company at a total cost of $ 279,506.63"
Another interesting tidbit from 1923:
"Change of Gauge-Farmington Branch September 1, 1923, work was started on changing this branch to narrow gauge and the change was completed without delay to trains, on September 3rd, at a cost of $ 12,255.49."
"It is estimated that saving in operating expenses resulting from the change will amount to $ 50,000.00 per annum."
