My favorite lettering for locomotives owned by the
CUMBRES & TOLTEC SCENIC RR is just
that, with the tri-color herald as shown below, but IMHO these should be
magnetic, placed over
the
painted flying
Rio Grande (or
DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN with herald on #463,
... and hopefully someday a K-37).
This way the marketing people get their wish to improve "branding" for the C&TS, but us hard-core railfans and historians can see authentic D&RGW paint schemes several times a year. With some of the D&SNG equipment lettered
Rio Grande, the D&RG in South Fork using
Rio Grande, and the SL&RG also using variations of
Rio Grande, the not-so-hard-core fan, the general public, and the vast majority of reporters are probably just a little confused as to what and where the C&TS really is.
