I was running 463 that day. That clip shows how tough that little engine was. 497 stubs her toe, falls down and 463 keeps dragging the whole works long until 497 gets her feet again. You can really hear how the train immediately slows down when 497 slips.
I was on 463 on a charter freight shoving ahead of the caboose. 497 was road engine. About 15-16 cars in all. We did a runby at Coxo. 497 was having sander problems and Carlos couldn't keep her on her feet. I had 463 wide open, in the corner, sander running. 497 would slip, and we'd stall - wide open. Carlos would get 497 underway, we'd move a carlength, 497 would slip, we'd stall. This went on for a couple hundred feet. I later saw the video from trackside. Every time 497 would lay down 463 would gather all 15 cars and boot 497 in the rear. Offically 463 was good for about 9-10 empty freight cars, but that day she proved she could at least move 15.
I really miss running that little engine.
