Seems to be pretty common in later years out of Alamosa shops. Hit and miss in earlier years. Gunnison liked silver or aluminum paint. Engines would come from Salida in basic black with minimal trim and the Gunnison boys would get out the paint brushes! Crossheads, valve hangers, journal lids, whistles and pops, wheel centers and tires, you name it, it got painted silver.
