Last I heard and saw in 2008 was that the first three miles of track between Malta and the Leadville smelter site are still intact. The last 1.8 miles were removed by the UP in 1997 and became a dormant rail corridor now in use as a bike trail but can be reinstalled if needed. The real money would have to go into rebuilding a part of the TP line and regrading and rebuilding track between mile post 140.3 and 137.06 on the LC&S. ( note the mile markers are in reference to the line from Denver to Leadville) Either way with the small operation at Climax rebuilding so much rail wouldn't make since unless the moly buisness begins to boom or the UP reactivates the TP ( doubtful). The only real unfortunate part about this is that for the first time in the mines history they will not ship the ore out by rail. Alex
