The 30+ year problem is that the caniballism has been "uncontrolled". As a result they have just about used all the "spares" that were once available. In 2000 or 2001 two side rods of the 487 were bent beyond repair by a reather irresponsible act. Were these replaced--yes, but from another engine. If they ever get around to the 483 many expensive parts will be needed. The parts exchange between 492 and 497 have left both in a sad state. Even the 463 is missing the first side rod on the right side and no replacement was provided by the RGRPC. How you feel about RGRPC I and RGRPC II and Bartholomew doesn't matter at this point in time. It still remains a responsibility of the Commission to insure proper care and maintenance of the property. Its sad to say but this area was one that was always swept under the carpet.
