Thanks for reminding me – the tracks being protected by the rail-fan in my photo belonged to the ATCHESON, TOPEKA & Sawnta Fé, so Texan's use of cow-fans to protect railroads in the summer was almost certainly imported from Kansas. But I'm pretty sure Ed Stabler had at least two of 'em, which he used as horse-fans to keep his horses (and asses)
* comfortable in hot weather. There are only a few musicians who can afford refrigerated troughs full of Lone Star to keep their animals cool
