Diseasalization at SVRy

Last weekend was annual safety training weekend at SVRR. Friday was a work party day, so volunteers split wood for #3, worked on the removal of the collapsed roof over the car shop storage track and other tasks on site. The weather was nice for May in N.E. Ore. On Sat. we had all day in the class room/ restoration shop while it poured rain and was generally nasty outside. Alfred Mullett, Jim Grigsby and other presenters did a great job. Breakfast and lunch was put on by SVRR VP Linda Raney and Carol Ross. On Sunday, there was more class room time in the morning and hands on training and review for the experienced folks doing switching in the afternoon using #720. Thankfully, the weather had turned and it was a very nice day. Our GE 50 ton diseasal #720 is really looking sharp and running great as can be seen in the four attached photos. Tom Young has been the main volunteer working on #720 for several seasons so this is to his credit. Yes the engine is running despite the absence of smoke from the exhaust. The big Cat V8 is a pleasure to listen to. The final photo shows part of the collapsed roof over the car shop storage track sitting on the cupola of caboose #5. The snow fall in N.E. Ore. was at record levels last winter and numerous buildings suffered damage across the region. (SVRR is soliciting donations to help repair the car shop).
