Above is comfirming of the July, 1900 forming of the company called Rio Grande Railroad Company with $2,000,000. It listed 6 proposed extension branches of the D&RG and the 5th in the list was "go down the Animas from Durango to Farmington and then follow the San Juan to Utah". The other proposed branches are outlined in the book "Railroads and the Rockies" by late Robert M. Ormes, 1963. Also built narrow gauge under this company name was the line from Delta to Somerset, and the branch to Texas Creek back to West Cliff.
