Rio Golden 57 is a replica of the Rio Grande 50, more or less. The 463 is back in Strasburg, CO.
Since the Ferris Wheel was moved to another location in the park, the depot area will take on a new look. The wooden platform is gone and will be replaced by an asphalt pad. Two and possiblly three cars will be rebuilt with doors. One aditional car will have wheelchair access.
Work trains were run to haul pieces of the platform to the back. I even got to stall the train out in ``The Jungle''. The 57 does not have sanders and this was my first experience running in snow. Owner Ed Dickens took over, made three passes through ``The Jungle'' then handed the train back to me.
Ed hopes to have have the cars rebuilt and the wheeels on the locomotive turned by time the season starts on Easter. I beleive he will go out on UP 844 sometime in the spring.
