In 2008? those new Cat 335hp high-revving engines were delivered and installed by Wagner Equipment, formerly Rust Tractor, Abq. I watched in Antonito as they put 'em in.
Both DC generators were rebuilt at an electrical shop in Grand Junction, CO.
Traction motors were rebuilt a few years ago. They have no blower vent system, hence are susceptable to overheating.
One or both air compressors, not rebuilt when the Cats were installed, apparently failed last year, hopefully were repaired.
Because of 19's now-hyper-power (380 to 670 horses)--
>both engine-to-generator couplings failed shortly after installation, were replaced with re-designs.
>at first, tires were half spun off wheels when full power was applied.
>cooling fan couplings failed, damaging the new radiators, were repaired.
The throttle/contactor appears to be untouched.
The radiator louvers were not re-installed, with apparently no plans to do so.
The 1943 horns were replaced with a Nathan K3L set. They were installed facing backwards, with no way to re-position them as mounted. I noticed because I donated them.
19 desperately needs minor body fixes, cab renos and a new paint job.
