Looks like my guesses were wrong. It looks like Henry Nissen and R.E. Hurley were ahead of Dan Holly on the freight board rotation so they got the freight train that left just after midnight. That left Holly next out on freight. When Tim Coughlin called off due to his leg injury a couple of days earlier Holly got the passenger.
Engineer Katschthaler is still off. With Jughead Johnson still in Chama Jack Dieckman went out again. Maybe he was temporarily assigned to the passenger pool.
