Engineer Katschthaler is missing again. I don't remember J.A. Peterson getting the passenger train when one of the regular heads laid off. I know that some engineers did not like running passenger trains. Was it possible for engineers to pass on running them?
Also the two Cummins, Roy Buchanan and W.M. Squires had seniority on R.E. Houck. Was is just a quirk of the rotation that Mr. Houck got two round trips as engineer?
I am not sure why these particular engineers appear to be out of rotation. One of the Cummins worked on the Silverton branch Jan 20.
As for the No. 115 and No. 116 runs. Engineers had to qualify for passenger service. After performing freight service for a specified period they could apply to qualify for passenger service. Not all engineers were qualified for this service, either by their personal choice or for other reasons.
