The Strasburg Rail Road is indeed building a replica of the V&T #1, the “Lyon”, a twenty two ton 2-6-0 with 40 inch drivers, 14 x 22 cylinders, and a wagon top boiler. At this time, the running gear, rods, and cylinders are finished and assembled. The boiler is under way, with the wagon top attached to the barrel, and the various fire box sheets drilled. This is all being done for an individual in the Midwest. He is building the tender himself.
Strasburg is also building four “Thomas the Tank Engines” for Gullane Entertainment, the Thomas people. They are non-powered, but set up with tired, spoked wheels, and side rods just like the one on TV. That project was started last winter, and they are to be finished by year’s end. One of the four is 3’ gage, and will be based at Durango.
