Hi, Gavin -
Jeff's post describes Jackalopes pretty well, and includes some details that I wasn't aware of.
I take it that you don't have similar creatures over there 'across the pond', although IIRC the
silkies of the Hebrides, Colonsay in particular, are equally difficult to capture. However, like
Jackalopes, they can be lured by an open container of good scotch such as Laphroaig.
Cindy started at U.C. Davis as a pre-vet major, and often declared her intent to master genetic engineering sufficiently well to create a living, breathing pet Jackelope of her own.

p.s. The animal in the photo on Jeff's post - like most of those found in souvenir shops throughout the southwest - is a fake. Real Jackelopes have antlers similar to those of the Pronghorn Antelope, which in many areas - along with the Frijolote
* - shares the same habitat. The presence of deer antlers on a stuffed "specimen" is a dead giveaway that it's a fake.
