My thoughts were that this system was probably "outlawed" for revenue service at some date after straight air was gone...appears that was a bad guess!
I too would be interested in a list of any other known car numbers that retained this system.
So Dave..think the 3102 is the wrong number? Seems that the inside number would be more reliable...since it was stenceled in several places....wouldn't think they would ALL wear off? Not sure why it would be misnumbered tho, if the number was so easy to find on the inside...
I had heard there was some renumber problems in both Durango..and Chama after both sales.
I know I shot photos some years ago of a D&SNG 800 series dump in Durango...only to find a little further down the track a car with the same number, in original D&RGW lettering....
