Re: NNG - end of line for Orient Express...

What has finished running was the last part of the regular service train which operated the path of the original Orient Express. Latterly it was just an ordinary train and by no means grand.

If you want the luxury experience you can still travel (at a price!) on the privately operated Venice Simplon Orient Express, which has been runing since 1982. Further details on the VSOE Web Site.

However, while not so luxurious, travel on modern European train services can be impressive in other ways. Next Monday I will travelling from London, England to Cologne, Germany. Distance about 370 miles. Travel time by train, with a change of train in Brussels, 3 hours 11 minutes. (OK going East it is an hour longer due to change of time zone, but coming back it is an hour less!).
