The town of Mina has not changed all that much in the last decade. Back in 2000 the census count was 284 (down from 484 in 1990). The Hawthorne, Nevada, Chamber of Commerce says Mina has about 330 people; but the last time I was in Mina I was told it was below 300.
The town has a general stores with a couple of gas pumps, a bar with package sales, a hamburger stand and another eatery (with the boat hall) and maybe the one in the old motel, RV park and a post office.
It does appear that the elementary school has been closed and pupils are now bussed to Hawthorne.
There has been sample bore drilling for mineral samples in the nearby mountains and I've been told that molybdenum has been found in the area. But, no further work has been done.
