Vulcan was a design of trucks that featured a cast side frame with a T shaped cross section to the cast elements. On the EBT they replaced lower capacity Arch-Bar trucks on the steel hoppers as well as wood frame trucks on some of the wood hoppers that were modernized (60,000 for Arch-Bar versus 70,000 or 80,000 for vulcan). The Vulcan trucks had separate journal boxes that were bolted on, similar to the Andrews trucks used by the D&RG. Vulcan and Andrews trucks were generally superceeded by cast frame trucks with with journal boxes integrated into the casting. These, I believe had a U shaped cross section to the casting. Later yet, the journal box was replaced by the roller bearing as in.
On the EBT the Vulcan truck design was used on locomotives #15-18 tender trucks, Cabooses 28 and 29 (with leaf springs rather than coil) all steel and hybrid boxcars, all steel flatcars, all hoppers built after the first batch of 10, and for timber transfer conversion trucks. As noted the first order of ten cars in 1913 came with arch-bar trucks (#800-809), however some were updated to the later three bay sloped sheet design and received vulcan trucks.
