DRHS 30 foot Refrigerator Cars 39 and 54

The Durango Railroad Historical Society acquired two D&RGW 30 foot Refrigerator car bodies last year, cars 39 and 54. Our plan is to restore one car and use the other body for equipment storage in Silverton. To qualify for History Colorado funding we must have documentation that the car we restore has operated through Durango or on the Silverton Branch of the D&RGW. We have found several photographs of car 54 in Durango. We have not found any photographs of car 39. The underframe on car 39 is in better condition so that is the car we would prefer to restore. We are looking for any evidence, photos, train registers, conductor reports, etc that would place car 39 in Durango or on the Silverton Branch prior to retirement of these cars in the mid 1950’s.
