Hi, All -
Back in the "Olden Days" Carlos Llamas, and more recently Roger Hogan, have posted lots of excellent photos of the behind-the-scenes activities in the shops that happen when an engine needs a major overhaul or even a complete restoration, but I haven't seen very many photos of the day-to-day operations needed to keep the railroad running.
After the #315 trips on September 13 & 14, I followed #488 over to Chama on Tuesday and ended the day by watching all the switching that was done to prepare the train for the following day's run, and then followed #487 as she was serviced before being bedded down for the night. Here are a few highlights from the evening of 09/15/2009.
Brakeman Ray Loose kept #487 pretty busy switching cars around
:
Sometimes Floppo got to hitch a ride
. . .
but mostly he did a LOT of walking

The crews were pretty busy, so I didn't want to interrupt them to get names; I hope Alan, Michelle or Soni is lurking and one of them will identify the hard-working employees in these photos and those to follow.
