Fritz,

I was at Ft Eustis in 1976 in the TOBC course. The Army at that time was deemphasizing the use of rail transportation. Only the movement of equipment by standard DOD flatcars. It seems that only about two decades later the nature of war in the Middle East and former Yugoslavia brought back the need to train Officers and Enlisted in rail operations again.

The great waves of C5A's that were suppose to move troops into the future battlefields were not as easy to move heavy divisions as planned. The two wars of the Middle East have taught the DOD that future planning might need to include great training in rail operations.
