Sheesh, Mike -
I freely admit to being one of Roger Hogan's self-described "Old Farts", and (almost) a contemporary of JBWX et al
*, but the Alamosa coaling dock had been dismantled YEARS before my first trip on the D&RGW (Silverton-Durango, 1959) and first three-day excursion (1960) from Alamosa to Durango, Silverton & return. Inspired by Jim Shawcroft and others, many years ago I did purchase a Bowler (the 1890's equivalent - more or less - of a fireman's Hard Hat), but I have NEVER owned a fedora, and am as opposed to neckties as I am to all other forms of superstition, suppression and dementia.

p.s. Maybe that's John Kennefick, IIRC at one time the Division Superintendent headquartered in Alamosa, and later President of the Union Pacific ...
* I'm just a year or two younger than John, and
half a decade or so younger than El Curmudgeono del Sur ...
