I am so sorry to hear this news. I started my railroad career on the Rio Grande as a "track supervisor trainee" under Jim in Utah. Some folks don't know that Jim was also an avid stamp and coin collector, having obtained postmarks from virtually every Colorado post office that was ever in service. I remember he used to take bundles of new $2 bills and get them bound in a pad, kind of like Post it notes. When we stopped at restaurants to have a bit to eat he would carefully tear off $2 bills to pay the tab. It really surprised some of the wait staff!
Over the years we kept in touch professionally and even had him do some work for us as a consultant after he retired.
Jim's knowledge of Colorado railroads will be missed. I'm glad for the memories and good times we spent.
