Gentelmen:
Mal Ferrell has written two books on the West Side; the most recent is a pictorial. Before Mr. Ferrell there was the book "Last of the Three-Foot Loggers" by Krieg and published by Golden West Books.
As I recall (without looking it up) the last operation as a logging operation was 1960. I saw the Tuolumne yard as an 11-year-old at Thanksgiving of 1960 during a family vacation.
Later on, during the 1970s a tourist operation called West Side & Cherry Valley operated on a portion of the line. I rode it a couple of times during PLA (Pacific Locomotive Assn.) excursion events. Then after that shut down the mill property was bought by Mr. Bell of Taco Bell fame and the mill site was developed as a theme park with a railroad operation that folded after a few years.
