Fascinating stuff. I was fortunate to do my railroading in places where the worst we had to deal with was wind and rain. Those guys who worked in snow had their work cut out for them, and it must have been especially challenging for the MOW guys who spent most of their time on the ground. I have a hard time imagining lining and tamping track in the winter, although they must have picked the reasonably bare spots. I find it also interesting that all this was happening during the period when I was making regular visits to the ng. It makes me realize how superficial my view was of what was going on....I was way too focused on the steam engines.
Thanks for keying all this stuff in. But I think this is history that is worth getting on the record.
