Thanks, Greg -
It's a LOT easier to be a semi-perfectionist these days - with a digital camera I don't have to read a light meter, then add half a stop to catch the running gear in the shadows under the running boards and reset the aperture, focus & shutter every two or three shots. I just choose the "film speed", set 'er to 'Autopilot', save everything as
.raw files and let Photoshop help me do the work later. No stinky, poisonous chemicals to worry about, and no cinders getting in my camera to scratch the film. Oh, how I miss the Good Old Days!!
Anyway, here are just a few more. I had to start a new series, since there aren't any K-37s in this group to allow me to further hijack the "Donate to #168" thread. Besides, these were taken eight months later than the other night shots in Durango, on the second evening of the September, 1962 three-day excursion to Silverton and return sponsored by the Alamosa Kiwanis Club.
Yes, that IS a diseasel - but at least it's Narrow Gauge
:
IIRC #483 had pulled our train from Alamosa to Durango on Friday, and #473 was our engine for Saturday's trip to Silverton and back
:
A friendly hostler turned on #487's headlight for us, and I popped off a couple of big Press-22 flashbulbs
:
A close-up of #487's running gear

There's that funny little diseasel butting in again

I was supposed to be studying for a Monday morning mid-term exam in physical chemistry that weekend, but the chemistry of burning coal was much more interesting. It took me the rest of the semester to get my grade up to a C

That's it for the 1962 B&W night shots, and only a couple of the following day's slides have been worth the effort to scan and 'de-scratch' - see [
