Here is a set of shots taken looking downgrade (northeast) towards Tonopah Junction where the Tonopah Railroad left the SP ng. The "then" shot was taken by Jim Morley and is found in Beebe & Clegg's Steam Cars to the Comstock. It most likely was taken between 1938 and 1943 as the rails appear abandoned and the line was finally taken up in 1943 (Tonopah Railroad lasted until after WWII).
The "now" shot was taken on June 14, 2009. The location is where the C&C crossed the old highway. We walked down to Tonopah Jct. and found many ties in place and a few artifacts such as broken links and air brake parts. The soil is very active and many of the parts were extremely rusty.
