Endowments are an excellant idea!
The realistic annual return on One Million Dollars, prior to Sept 11th, is $50,000. You really should consider something in the eight figure range to make a substancial difference. The major problem with endowments is that your adverage donor has a hard time understanding the purpose. They don't have anything tangible to point to and say "I donated that"
