Dang,

I will probably miss most if not all of the fall colors. I drive back home from Chicago next weekend (after being laid off my contract job). When I was home for my last visit we drove over Wilkerson pass to Fairplay and on to Breckenridge. There were a few colorful patches starting to show then.

During the more brilliant years the landscape almost becomes surreal. One year we drove from Divide to Cripple Creek when the colors were particularly deep and the skies were clear as a bell. The contrast between the deep blue sky and the yellows (and oranges) in the aspens were so stark that you would have sworn that the whole countryside had been photoshopped!
