One of my greatest memories of working in Chama was hostling with #463.The way it worked out the #463 was at the front of the lineup one evening and #484 was dead over the inspection pit, after cleaning the #463's fire we decided that #484 was going to be put on the drop pit track to cool off #488,#489,were in front of #484 and #497 was on the drop pit track outside. The only one cold was #484 the only one that had air up was #463.So what we did was tie on to #497 pull forward of the switch, back up tie on to #489 and then #488 and then #484 laying sand as I did so. Those FIVE engines didn't want to move at first but slowly and sureley the #463 dug in and moved four BIG K-'s without missing a beat. There was a friends work session in progress at the time and wow did that stack talk draw a crowd.John Bush even called to see why we were making so much noise but it was neccesary and was the least amount of moves!
