These rail bikes were once manufactured by the Teetor Bicycle Company around the turn of the century and were available in several different gauges. I remember seeing one at the Colorado Railroad museum years ago. Randy and Bobby Babcock have a standard gauge and a 3 foot rail bike. I have rode the 3 foot bike but it was wasn't the fastest way to travel and it had a tendacy of derailing.I heard that they were carried on freight and passenger trains and were used to ride back to a station or telegraph location to warn for a delay or problem.
