Most of the time there is no need for a mask. If the photo program that you use allows, just de-saturate all the color channels except the one color you want to keep. In the case of one of Roger’s photos where he keep the flowers in the foreground in color, you could de-saturate the yellow flowers by using a brush and this would not effect the yellow in the tank. Adobe Lightroom makes these tasks very easy.
