that Central City's "ruin" was at the hands of state government motivated by dreams of economic development. My post-liberal view is that government planning's legacy is strip malls, vacant "revitalized" downtown business districts, or occasional garish Deadwood (S.D.) type transformations. Too often planning in the form of tax districts, sewer extensions, and even gambling dispensations FUEL such development rather than containing it.
Thank God, the states have left Chama and Antonito alone. Uh, wait a minute. I guess there is the small matter of the need for state support of the C&TS. Not to mention the fact that economic development was the reason they bought it in the first place. But that's different. Damn, it's hard to be consistant these days. How'd I get tangled up in my own post, anyway? Aw, just forget I brought the whole thing up, Trent.
