In reading the old locomotive dictionarys and Bladwin spec books:
A through pipe is a Tube. There are Fire Tube boilers (Locomotive type) and Water Tube boilers.
Superheaters go in Flues. I've never heard of a "Water Flue boiler"
Like with the recent discussion on the GTL #12, it now has mostly Flues and a few Tubes, where as before it had only Tubes.
Bundles of Superheater Tubes go in Flues.
What isn't clear is if a condition of being a "flue" is a matter of just diameter (such as anything over X" in diameter is a Flue) or if it must be specifically for Superheaters.
Cheers,
