498 arrived to Durango near operational if I remember. Is that correct?

I would not say they are in bad shape. They are still servicable

At some point the 490 series boilers will be in better shape then the 480 boilers, which will not last forever.

Who knows what will still be running in 50 years when the locomotives are 130 years old, or in the case of the 490's, 150 years old by then.
