The tender tank that #497 now has was built by the D&SNG, copying the tank it was using that came from #490. The orignal tender that #497 had was wrecked in the last major derailment on the D&RGW at mile 326.30, on February 10, 1960 (along with #498).
D&SNG sold the #497 tender tank (ex-490) at auction to Ray Loose, who moved it to his ranch near Durango for water storage.
