Over on the west side...
I made it into the tunnel with a group in August 1992 (before the Forest Service closed it up). We didn't go any farther than the debris pile at the entrance, but you could see track still in place under water, and could see quite a distance down the tunnel. I had my camera, but didn't bring a flash (we hadn't planned on going in), so the photos are worthless.
During a Passport-In-Time workday for the Forest Service in 2000, they removed a stone blocking the final hole at the top of the portal. I really couldn't see anything through the small hole - it was at an odd angle, and dark inside. They wouldn't let anyone go in, but I was able to get these photos by reaching my camera in as far as I could, and taking blind shots.
This is what the portal looked like before the last few stones were removed. I was laying face down on this rock pile with my face against the cap stone to get the camera far enough inside.
