I was reading the Baldwin Narrow Gauge catalog and it mentions that there are some differences in the operation between compound and singles particularly on steep grades. My question is, would a compound locomotive behave different on a steep downgrade? One case I read mentions that a loco I'm researching ran away and the engineer threw in reverse at full throttle. One account mentions that this loco was a compound, was involved in several other mishaps, and it seems to be the least favorite locomotive on the roster. I'm trying to figure out if there is a link...Thanks for any insight
